Debut AURCC ride and Freezing Windy Solo's

I ventured out for a début ride with AURCC (Aberdeen University Road Cycling Club) a fortnight ago, on a bleak and drab Aberdeen Saturday with what turned out to be a group of mostly ex-AURCC riders with seven of us in total. After chasing the 30mph signs on the thirty kilometres out to Banchory we holed up at Banchory Lodge for some warm refreshments (this truly is winter cycling) then chain-ganged it back to Aberdeen City at a vast rate of knots (or Kilo's for those sticklers out there).

The following day I went a little further on a one hundred (and five) kilometre ride with AWCC along South Deeside to Banchory then through Aboyne and Torphins before heading home. With less than 750m climbing it was relatively sedate but the pace made up for what we lacked in hills, with Granite City Racers completing a group of approx 20 riders for a chain-gang out to Banchory once again.

The Rare Good Weather in Winter 2013/14
Then due to what was essentially a lack of motivation to get out on another bleak weekend I skipped riding altogether the following week. Although the bike did receive some tlc. This weekend (03/11/13) I was due to ride with the Wheelers (AWCC) again but with hurricane-like weather outside one look out the window confirmed it would have been miserable. I since found out that three guys met up but only two completed the ride - a hardcore 140 kilo's - pure mental-ness!
Once the sideways rain (this is becoming a common theme) did subside, through sheer boredom I decided to saddle up and go for a quick spin north of the city. With the bike on the Thules, I drove to Udny Green then completed a quick 23 kilo loop through Oldmeldrum and Tarves. Despite the brain freeze (this actually happened) and the 72Km/h headwind I made it round in less than fifty minutes back to the safety and warmth of the car. Although it must be said, once you turned downwind the cadence skyrocketed and I was easily cruising along at 40-50km/h which was just a delight!

Until next time.
