Post-Ride Blues and Breaking the Sound Barrier (well sort of!)

So, it's been two weeks since I returned from my last cycling adventure with the @CLSCyclists and what has happened in the interim? Despite suffering the post-ride blues for approx. four days where I was sitting in an office just itching to be outside and back in the saddle; it was in fact a full seven days before I actually did so. Mentally - it felt great. Physically - less so.

Since then I have only ventured out on le velo twice more to date - due to a busy few weeks finishing work, packing for holiday and packing to move up to Aberdeen. In the whirlwind that is, I also decided to go running one lunch time - three laps around the Aztec loop (3.3 mi). This was a big mistake as cyclist's legs are NOT runner's legs and the muscle group is painfully different. Mistake not to be repeated.

Two days later, still hobbling around, it was time to jump back on the bike and go for a light spin in an attempt to loosen the legs. This worked to a degree but the problem with road-cycling is that "it never gets easier, you just go faster" (Greg LeMond) and thus this light spin turned into how many PR's/Trophies can I get on Strava - the answer was 10 and an avg of 17.8 mph.

Continuing with Monsieur LeMond's credo, having complained to local rider Tim B at the beginning of the yesterday's ride about not having a fast enough rear cassette to break the 50 mph barrier, it finally happened and boy what a sensation it was! I absolutely loved it! But there's still room for improvement. Whilst I'll retain the triple 'granny' chainring for now, the rear one will be upgraded in the next few months to ensure +50 mph becomes the norm on descents.

I hope you've enjoyed reading and are making the most of the British Summer on your own velo's. Until next time...enjoy La Vuelta '13. Adiós!
